Joey Camarda’s production life stretches way back. His introduction to music and production began when he would make hip-hop beats for his friend, an aspiring rapper. Combine that developing talent with a string of bands, playing different instruments, and you get a man with a wide array of talents ready to be applied into the studio. Fast forward a couple years, and here he is, making a name for himself in the industry.

.”I like to use a lot of drums and percussive sounds in my production”

In the studio, Camarda has a keen affection for the groovy and the upbeat. House music that brings energy and consistency is what he goes for. His latest remix is the perfect showcase for his style. His remix of Stadiumx’s ‘Mombasa’, has now hit #44 of Beatport’s Top 100 Progressive House charts, continuing to climb the charts. With the perfect blend of percussion and melodies, this remix surely adds loads of value to his real estate.

His talents extend far beyond the studio. With some serious gigs at New York venues including Pacha NYC, Webster Hall and Marquee NYC, Camarda knows how to put his sounds on the spot and with a crowd.

I like to play the room, whether it’s playing some upbeat tech house and keeping a groove going or playing some emotional progressive house to please a more main stream crowd […] I like to take the crowd on a journey and play a lot of music they may not have heard before”

Regardless of what he’s playing, his mantra remains the same. Play the room. Responding to the crowd and keeping the tempo and vibe going is a critical skill of a DJ, one that is often not recognized as much as it used to be. But for Carmada, this is no issue.

Since the closing of Pacha NYC – the home of his regular gigs, he has decided to focus more effort in the studio, to develop the sound he wants. So for this year we can expect more of the groovy, tribal and melodic sound that he’s been working on, in improving quality.

Being in the scene for some time now, Camarda has learned how much effort it truly takes. There are always people applying themselves harder, and with that realization comes the personal goal to achieve something truly great. With that in mind, Camarda continues his path to success.
